Can my 9 yr old brother receive survivor benefits from my mother’s SS disability?
My mother passed away Oct 2009, and on the day she died my stepdad, (my little brother and 16 year old sister’ biological father) went to job and family service’s in our county to get benefits switched over in his name. Then the same day he went to social security and tried to get survivor’s benefits for my siblings. My little brother’s dad stays drunk from the time he wakes up to the time he passes out, letting my little brother run the streets. He told us, (my other sisters and brother over the age of 18) that they would not give him any benefits from her death. She worked only for a little bit, and didn’t pay into social security tax much, I think that’s why they wouldn’t give him anything. Just wondering if anyone knows of that being true or not? I just want to be able to see that my brother to be able to go to school with clean clothes on his back, decent shoes on his feet, having the things he needs.
