Why do people cry so much about the holocaust but don't pay attention to similar atrocities happening now?

Sadly it has to do with involvement. When we were involved in Vietnam, we barely paid attention to Pol Pot and his army of children slaughtering individuals either. It didn't have anything to do with us. The same can actually be said of the Holocaust, during the actual time it was going on. It was only afterwards when it was discovered just how badly a 'civilized' nation had treated its own people that it became a big deal.
